Here are the 1000 Chinese characters of most frequent appearance in the Asahi Shimbun, one of Japan's leading daily newspapers. The same 1000 characters account for 90% of all the characters used in Asahi articles.

Traditional indexing assigns 84.2% of these 1000 characters to one of 70 classifiers (customarily and inaccurately labeled "radicals"). The remaining 15.8% of the characters are assigned to classifiers with three or fewer examples among the present selection; these characters are consolidated at the bottom of the chart.
